Travel is not always about visiting a city swarming with tourists seeking the same attractions as you are. Sometimes you just want to relax and enjoy a quiet stay, possibly with great surroundings to explore. One such place is Stone Garden Chalets, a small group of log cabins you can rent individually. The nearest city is Tatamagouche, in the northern part of Nova Scotia, one of the maritime provinces in Canada. In total there’s a two hours drive from Halifax, mostly highway.
We went to Stone Garden Chalets for the 2010-2011 New Year’s Eve, in full winter season, so there was a little bit of snow, but nothing a normal car can’t handle. Why I say that? Because the last few kilometers of the road are paved with stones and a lot of dirt, especially when it rains.

Even if winter is not the best season to visit Stone Garden Chalets (as you’ll see in the pictures below), the quietness of the place means you can still spend a few relaxing days together with your friends. And given the fact that phone signal is very low, there’s a chance you won’t be disturbed during your stay there.
It was clear to me that a lot of friendly people had spent time at Stone Garden Chalets, as squirrels were used to be fed by tourists. If there’s one thing missing from our trip was the lack of tourists attractions to visit nearby, but that’s not the point of renting an ocean view cabin for a few days, right?
