I have to admit that till last year I wasn’t a fan of visiting museums, but after the London trip, where I’ve visited some of the best museum in the world I’ve kind of got the taste for them, so here I am in January in Halifax, visiting Pier 21, also called Canada’s Immigration Museum. It’s a fascinating place to see where millions of people have landed far away from their native country and their family, in a hope for a better life. Actual figures are 1.5 million immigrants and Canadian military service personnel who passed through Pier 21 between 1928 and 1971.

Pier 21 Museum – official site. Here you’ll find info about visiting hours, location, tickets and attractions, as well as a brief history of Pier 21, Canada’s immigration landmark.

We took our visit in a sunny and (very) chilly day. That was good, because not many visitors had chosen Pier 21 that day, a pretty small museum by today’s standards. This way we were able to take some pictures without having to worry about the crowd.

What not to miss at Pier 21

There are a few attractions you have to see at Pier 21. Our favorites include:

  • Ice skating museum
  • Train wagon simulation
  • Cruise vessel simulation
  • Main customs waiting room
  • Gift shop

Here are a few pictures we’ve shot at Pier 21. If you’re traveling to Halifax this could be a good place to pun on your agenda of things to see. It’s right next to ocean front, in the Downtown area. Paid parking is available too.

  1. Wow, Some of those pictures you took are amazing. I’ve been to Canada many times, but never to Nova Scotia. Thanks for sharing.
